History of Worawora
Worawora is a town located in the Oti Region of Ghana, specifically in the Biakoye District. It is approximately a 67 km (1-hour drive) from Kpando.
The people of Worawora trace their origins to the Asante Kingdom, maintaining allegiance to the Golden Stool. They migrated from Kuntanase during the reign of Otumfuo Opoku Ware I in 1732. After a conflict with the Chokosi tribe, they settled in their present location in 1774.
Initially, the Worawora people lived on a plateau called “Obuguan”, later moving to a mountain known as “Ofiepepowso” (Home Mountain). They remained there until Rev. Nicholas T. Clerk, a Basel missionary, persuaded them to relocate to the more expansive land below the plateau. For over 300 years, the people of Worawora have preserved their Akan culture and customs, speaking Twi as their primary language. They celebrate the Akwantutenten Festival every October, marking their long journey from Kuntanase to their current settlement. The current Paramount Chief, Nana Sarfro Baah III,, was installed on January 3, 2025.
Population of Worawora
Worawora continues to experience steady population growth. According to the 2021 census, the population was 6,830 (3,364 males and 3,466 females). By 2024, projections estimate a population of 7,185 (3,559 males and 3,625 females).
Worawora ranks as the third most populated town in Biakoye District, following Kwamekrom and Abotoase. This growth highlights the town’s need for continued investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure to support its expanding population.
Natural Resources in Worawora
Worawora is rich in natural resources, including:
- Timber species: Odum, Mahogany, Asanfina, Papao, Kyere, Oprono, Wawa, Ofram, and Teak.
- Medicinal plants: Neem, Mahogany, and Teak.
- Agricultural resources: Cocoa and fertile farmlands.
- Geographical features: Rivers and mountains.
These resources provide opportunities for economic development, particularly in forestry, agriculture, and eco-tourism.

- Worawora Dwabrem Project (Pavement and Fountain Construction) – Sponsored by Nana Kwaku Ayisi – Completed.
- Pavement of Kotomase Lanes – Sponsored by Nana Kwaku Ayisi – Ongoing.
- Construction of Anglican, Kotomase, and Worasec Roads – Sponsored by Nana Kwaku Ayisi – Ongoing.
- Modern Library with Internet for Worawora Anglican Primary School – Sponsored by Mr. Charles Kumi (a native of Worawora, residing in the USA) – 85% complete.
